Week 8 - Measurement & Data (3/2 - 3/6)

We are still working with measurement. Many students are struggling with time and metric units. Please review these skills with students. Students should know the following information:

  • How to read an analog clock
  • Half past 12 = 12:30
  • Quarter after 7 = 7:15
  • Quarter to 4 = 3:45
  • Quarter hour = 15 min
  • Half hour = 30 min
  • One hour = 60 min
  • Milliliters and Liters measure capacity. Milliliters measure small capacities (ex. a small milk carton is 236 mL). A liter measures large capacities (ex. a large milk jug is about 4 L).
  • Grams and Kilograms measure weight/mass. Grams measure small amounts of weight (ex. a paper clip weighs about 1 gram). Kilograms measure heavy amounts of weight (ex. a third grade student weights about 30 kg.)
Practice telling time throughout the day with your child. Take your child to the store and let them look at different items to see how they are measured.
